Last minute rush!!

Just finished technical exams myself, didn't do very well i guess, but did my best so...its up to the judges, Dr loo and Dr chan to judge :(

I myself am gonna be free till after raya where i have to present my orchestration O3 and and also orchestration on scoring for wind orchestra..should start work now i guess :p

Anyway for my coursemates things are not going too well, they just finished technical exams yesterday, then have to rush for tmr's presentation. Thank God i'm only taking the course next sem :)

The H4 room in which we usually use for relaxing was converted into a temporary cyber cafe

all we lack is some people playing dota ( which we usually do as well but today is super packed so we opted not to :p)

Nevertheless....we still love fun. Catherine's birthday was last week, decided to celebrate today. So all of us, left our work stations and....

Yup, as much as we can work hard, and study our brains out and practise our fingers off, we still enjoy having fun :)

Now everyone's back to work and i'm...in a holiday mood :) yeah!! no more work till next week :p

week 12 sem 1 08/09

Week 12.....exam week again....this week...analysis and technical exam...
This is what you'd expect from UPM - Universiti Perperiksaan Malaysia
Week 12 out of 14 study weeks....2 exams in 14 study weeks, not counting finals after the 14 weeks...seems like i never got out of high school :)

Caught some pics of my course mates and juniors...would be nice to say that the reason for these pics were because of the exams, but i can't lie can't i :) they were from last week. For some reason, these were the only postable pics i found on my camera. (being a new blogger, have not gotten into the habit of snapping at everything :) )

Yeap it suits the exam theme very nicely :)

looking forward to next week, which is a one week holiday due to hari raya celebrations. The local unis are very good to adjusting mid sem holidays in accordance to festive holidays, which mean we wont have 1 or 2 days more holidays...good thing is no need replacement class..bad thing is ....no extra holidays..sob..

Plans for next week....sleep...sleep....sleep...oh yea..and assignments..and practice....and....well there goes my holidays....haha

Technical exam is tmr....gonna get blisters on my fingers...scales scales scales....good for skills, bad for flesh..

Its hard to train a technique when you've got a slight "kecacatan" c if u can spot what is different from your hand :)

Answer: shorter last finger...

Its hard to play when you can't reach....but still its not impossible... One of my teachers said that its possible that it may grow longer...that was few years ago. Not that i've measured it, but still it looks shorter than its supposed to be :)

Its almost 4 pm...gotta go prepare to go uni...gonna have a long afternoon...

Thank God for public holidays !

17 September 2008...Selangor public holiday...Yay!!!!

Its been a long time since had a break from classes on a weekend, so all my coursemates..well not exactly all...some of my coursemates and i planned a day out. Most of them wanted to go shopping for evening gowns for the upcoming MPO concerts...of course, that was not why i was there with them hehe..not a chance guys..sorry..at least not now yet :p

Anyway had to wake early to send vivien back to uni, yes she spent a night at our place coz the uni internet connection a bit cacat vista cannot connect so she asked if could come to our place to do her report. Cut the long story short...went to uni and saw this

Seems that the unit keselamatan has been busy...actually the car was clamped the night before already...then well today i dropped by and it was still clamped..meaning that its been 2 days since the owner has driven it..poor car...

Back to my story...sent vivien back to uni then went on my way to Sg Wang...for one thing...Sing K.. haha...yeap thats wht i enjoy doing when i'm stressed out..plus it helps keep me updated with songs too (getting old d lo...haha) oppss..better stop at a gas station first...since the gas went up..this has been something that i see quite frequent

Finally in Sg Wang..initial plan was to park at KTM station then later go back to collect the car before going for the next item, which was lunar mooncake festival celebrations at music house for music department students (since we're all chinese...well at least 99% so we have a celebration every year) but Audrey told me she may need help with transportation for the ukm student outing so i drove to Sg Wang. Reached there at 1020am..Sing 11 am session..so had some time to do some shopping...well window shopping for me, but for the rest...i think they spent most of the time choosing which wallet to buy (don't think all of them bought in the end though)

Since last sem, I have been going quite frequently to karaoke outlets with my coursemates but its been about a month since i last went..kinda lost touch with the songs and, this time was qutie quiet, but we enjoyed neverhteless :)

Halfwya thru, Audrey called and said no need my help to fetch the ppl...my first thought... parking... there goes my $$ well.. at least i can go window shopping..

After hours of walking around the stores, my coursemates bought heaps of stuff, shoes, clothes, accesories...then we went to Madam Wong's for dinner...

After dinner, it was back to UPM for the celebration. It has been a tradition since our batch that hte juniors entertain the seniors for this event. So..all of us were kinda anticipating what the juniors had prepared for us. It turned out to be quite fun..games, food and lame jokes...one lame joke at least...too lame for me to share hehe....

Well, thats it...i guess...nice break from normal routine of mundane classes and assignments...next week will be exam week though....but still i wouldn't miss this break even if its exams tmr :)

Orchestra Memories

Our music department has an orchestra performance each semester. So far, i have been in 5 concerts. As our department is considerably small (esp the last 2 years after the seniors have graduated) we are considerably small orchestra so we have guest players who come and help in the orchestra each sem...well at least for 2 sems now :)

This kinda reminds me of my first orchestra performance, back in first sem...didn't really know much how to play the trombone, went in and tried anyway. Day before performance, the conductor asked me try not to play if i wasn't confident of the tone (which was almost every tone :P) but it turned out well.

hehe those were the days.

Anways fast forward...till recently...the sedaya performance on 12th august (remember it coz it was my mom's b'day hehe).Though played only like 18..or 19 notes, it was cool coz got to meet new people, got to hear new music and well though the organizing college was UCSI, i guess all of us performers feel something when we hear a missed part :P I guess for all of us who went to perform for that concert we have gained something if not just more experience. For me,well 19 notes is quite insignificant, but hey, when you're not playing you learn to listen. And for a musician, listening is as important as playing agree, fellow musicians?

It has been..as Guy Sebastian sings "a long and winding journey" . Now, playing the solo part for Peer Gynt Suite No.2 3rd movement is not a problem for me ...though its just 12 notes of solo but hey at least now 80% of wht mes out from the trombone sounds as it was written :) Transiting from just a mere player to someone who is involved in the organizing comittee. Its something that not everyone can experience. The next concert is like one month away, and now we are only like 30% ready haha...the adrenaline rush will be comming no doubt for all involved, performers, conductor and organizers. But without a doubt, i know that all of us will work hard to make it a success, and that surely the audience will enjoy the performance :) coz unless you're a trained professional musician, most of the time you wont be able to recognize the mistakes :p

Note to self: take more photos of next orchestra
